Melbourne may have The Race That Stops a Nation, but come November, Charleville in outback Queensland gives the fillies and frocks of the south a run for their money at the Charleville Cup Festival.

The Charleville Cup Day on Tuesday (Melbourne Cup Day) is the culmination of a four-day festival of Food, Fun and Fashion, and finishes with horse racing at its finest.

The 2023 Charleville Cup Festival will run from Saturday, 4th to Tuesday, 7th November and is made possible thanks to the wonderful ongoing support and sponsorship from local Charleville businesses, clubs and individuals.

For this, the Charleville Cup Committee sincerely thank you.

Fashions on the Field

Judged by a panel of experts, entrants in The Charleville Cup Festival’s Fashions on the Field are encouraged to showcase their very best in stylish spring racing fashion and millinery.  Contestants are judged on their overall outfit, accessories, attention to detail, seasonal appropriateness, and deportment.

This event isn’t just for the younger cup-goers and regularly attracts a diverse cross-section of contestants; so start planning your ensemble today.

The Central Warrego Race Club Fashions on the Field judging will occur from 11.00 am to 2.15 pm.  The judges will wander through the crowd wearing large colourful badges; you are sure to spot them a mile away. You can nominate directly with the judge for the section you are keen to enter (there won't be an official nomination table).  Judges will also approach you.

Categories are:

  • Champion Lady of the Day

  • Classic Lady

  • Contemporary Lady

  • Best Dressed Couple

  • Best Dressed Gentleman

  • Outstanding Millinery (open to brimmed hats & fascinators inclusively)

There will also be a Junior Section comprising of Prep, Primary and High School. You will be asked to return to the main stage at 2:50 pm for marshalling. Contestants will then step up on the stage with their section and the winners are announced at approximately 3:00 pm.  Judges decision is final.

We hope to see you all there and best of luck!
